[haflingerfriends] Re: spotted Haflingers, NOT!

I will with all respect to you Cheryl, will have to 100% disagree with this idea. I am a member of the AHR, and feel as such I do have say in this matter. I will not support a purebred registry that would allow for irresponsible breeding. Accidents only happen because a person was not acting responsible. The bending of rules is WRONG.

If a person wishes to see a breed organization change the way it operates, then they should only expect that change to happen if they are a member of the organization, and they are willing to work to see that happen.

Like Dawn had mentioned previously, a person does not need to own a registered Haflinger in order to belong to the AHR and to have VOTING privledges. Change will only come through a the democratic method of voting. If a person REALLY did care about the breed, they WOULD make cuts in other areas of spending and join the registry. I realize that this may seem offensive, but it is true: Talk is cheap.

I do not feel that $65 is that much money... If it truly is something a persons believes in, then they will find ways to come up with that money. Especially if that person loves the breed, believes in them and stands to profit from breeding registered Haflingers.

They should offer a hardship application, perhaps costing a LITTLE more to allow an obviously purebred animal to be registered. There are a lot of unregistered purebreds because of parents being too young or not licensed. Is the AHR hurting itself and these unregistered horses by not allowing the foals to be registered? I think so, it definitely hurts the foals involved and the future owners have no control over what happened during the breeding process. I'm not advocating allowing horses to be bred at an earlier age, just that it's a shame the resulting foals are not allowed to be registered, especially when it's an accident which can easily happen with a young stallion!!! Isn't it a bit like cutting off the nose to spite the face?
