[haflingerfriends] Re: Need advice- mare won't drink!

This is what I was going to advise. Also, is she alone (only horse)? If you can, you might go down to the barn and read a book, knit or just hang out for a while. I've been spending about 1.5-2 hours during the lunch feeding. And when I feed in the a.m., I spend about an hour with raking, fluffing the stall fixing some soaked and rinsed beetpulp. Same at night.

Some people also suggest adding salt to the feed (a TBL or 2 per day?) - same principle as 'salty snacks' at a bar. You can also try adding "flavoring" (molasses, Kool-Aid, Gatorade, etc) to one bucket of water - always leave one bucket with plain water.

Lola is normally very easy going and she doesn't sweat this kinda stuff but for some reason she is very stressed out. She's eating in this really aggitated fashion, preoccupied with the rain coming down in the arena and won't touch her water. Now she looks gaunt.
