I've never compared the loose vs block concentrations so don't have that info. My vet recommended them after moving my Haflinger from a huge acreage to our much smaller farm acreage. I think there is a difference or she (vet) would have recommended the block.
I just ask for a bag of "loose horse minerals" at the Co-op and keep a scoop in a bucket in each stall for the horses to dip into whenever they choose. I also offer my Haflingers three blocks--white, red(minerals), and sulfur. They choose the loose most frequently, then the white block. You might want to check with your vet...
