Re: [haflingerfriends] Re: Best Fit Saddles for Haffies ...

Selena
I know about the round part.My girl was so round that was her only shape.Of course she thought i was starving her to death! When in all rights she was still being over fed,but not free feed. And yes she giggled all over too.
My first ride which was only about a mile long with her,she was covered in sweat from head to toe!It wasn't falling off type ringing wet,but she was soaked! My saddle pad was completly wet!!!And all we did was her walk/trot,which is more of a fast walk for me.This last summer she was alot better, she was a little sweaty under the pad.Not like when i got her i had to dry her off before i could put her back in the pasture(dry lot!)and of course she still found the mud and rolled in it.LOL All my aunt and uncles horses never rolled in the mud until i brought her there LOL.My bad!!!
The thing i like about Timber Ridge is that they will custom make a saddle to fit you and your horse.I know when i emailed them i wrote to Betty. She is a doll! And very helpful!
Hope you find a saddle for your rolly polly boy,i know i had a fun time trying to find one for my rolly polly girl.So good luck!I know what you are in for LOL

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I will check out Timber Ridge.

I did look at the Haffy saddles, and they weren't big enough for our Storm. Most of those saddles just sit on the back, and slide around even with a chest strap! With the Passier it fits him pretty good, and I don't mind using it myself, and I'm a western Rider. But the saddle is way too big for my girl to use during her English Riding lessons.

Storm is a Western horse, and used in trail rides most of the time. However, we are taking him into the English style as well. He now will walk over the jumps .. lol  He has lost about 50 pounds since we got him, but man .. he's still big! He's only 14 hands .. and needs to lose at least another 60 - 100 pounds! (I like seeing a round butt on my horses, but this boy jiggles when he moves! LOL

I posted up a few pictures each of our horses for everyone to see.

Thanks again!

Selena

And i know what you are dealing with on the saddle front!I to have had problems finding a saddle to fit my wide girl(who is also a little over weight, she has lost some but could lose a little more) i ended up going with a costum fit saddle for her and me.I could find a saddle to fit her but was to big for me,and vise versa. So i found haffie saddles at Timber Ridge Saddlery, and they offer custom fit saddles.Still paying for it right now so i am stuck with the bare back pad as well. But come spring we will be ready to ride!

He, was almost impossible to fit in any type of saddle. When I first bought him, all I could get on him was a bareback riding pad. Now that he's lost weight, I can just get the Aussie saddle on him, and I managed a XXL 17 inch Passier English Saddle on him. However I found that they just fit him. I think that with more work and him dropping some more weight, things will fit a lot better.
