8. this is where a LOT of the insults come from in my opinion: Not everyone HAS the money to spend on a trainer or to buy and 800.00 (and up!) saddle or to have everything in their horse's environment tested for sugar or allergies or what have you. I am NOT saying that these folks are irresponsible and should not have a horse, I'm just saying that there seems to be an assumtion made that this is possible for everyone because it's possible for some.
9. I don't know that everyone knows about the archives? If they do, they may not know how to search them? I don't think it's a bad idea at all to point people to this wonderful feature, but we can't assume that they know it's there.
10. I do think that if one has the knowledge, and the TIME (and I know this is a big IF for most of us! :-) ), that is good to answer a question for the umpteenth time. I'm not saying that it's obligatory, but just think, there are new people joining all of the time who may not even KNOW they have a question but when someone else asks it and they get the answer it's LEARNING! Isn't that what this is about? There is clearly the option, then, to delete the question and not answer it if you don't want to or don't have the time.
11. Staying out of an argument is ALWAYS an option! :-)
I know there is more where that came from,. but I'm getting long, sorry.

I think this topic is going off on a tangent, this isn't even what the
original issue WAS.
I agree with another prominent member (whom I will not name in this post)
who said that unless you are posting fluff, you get flamed for asking a
question by certain posters. Judy, I'm sorry but several times your posts
have been insulting. How do you expect someone new to this group (NOT to
horses) to learn anything if you are not willing to help. If you don't want
to help, don't answer. Let them go to the archives, but don't be rude.

Cari,
It may seem idealistic, but I think getting along is attainable *IF* all
posters keep several things in mind:
1. UNDERSTANDING that the versatile Haflinger is owned by many people for
different reasons and uses. No one reason or use is superior to any other!!
Thus, many diverse interests are reflected on this list which is financially
supported by breeders of REGISTERED Haflingers and we all do well to keep
that in mind when posting about our own personal preferences. It's a matter
of mutual respect.
2. To all NEW FOLKS (and please remember that every one of us was at one
time new here), we DO understnad how it feels to try to "join" in this large
group of very knowledgeable folks. The combined knowledge of all members is
ENORMOUS! We understand what it is to want to share enthusiasm about one's
own Haflinger! We also understand that being new can never excuse ridiculing
others or complaining about topics discussed or getting sarcastic with other
member's comments. Again, it is a matter of mutual respect.
3. New members who join predominately to LEARN (many join to share) have
immediate access to all the ARCHIVES (located at top of page) containing
over 10 years worth of information discussed on this list. The more simple
the question, the more likely it's been answered many times, by many people.
Not simple to search? Requires time? Stop and think: answering the same
question for the 100th time (many of us have done that not because we had to
do it but because we've wanted to help fellow Haflinger owners) is not
always simple or quick either. But we do it for the welfare of the Haflinger
Horse (it's not about a person).
4. ALSO, LEARNERS: Emily has invested many hours of her spare time creating
an interesting and informative site for everyone to check out. It, too,
contains a wealth of info. And if your question doesn't get an immediate
answer, perhaps other members are busy or have other interests (most of us
have full lives beyond this list), you certainly can ask again in a few
days. Perhaps someday we'll have an automated site with instant answers, but
until then we're all just human beings. And as human beings we like to feel
"useful", not "used" (think about the difference!).
5 READ CAREFULLY (not just the first few lines and assume the rest), but the
entire post. The WISE new member will consider the fact that these posts
have not gone through numerous revisions and editing--they're spontaneously
written. As wonderful as it can be at times, the written word has it's
limitations. No bodily gestures, no facial expressions, no inflections of
the voice; therefore, it is usually wiser to interpret each post as having a
kindly intent because that's usually how comments are intended.
7. My apologies to Emily, who I know posted a very comprehensive set of
suggestions for each of us to follow when we joined this list. I appreciate
your patience, Emily, and perhaps we could benefit from a review of those if
you feel inclined to refresh our memories.
Finally, there will always be people who leave this list. No one list could
possibly satisfy all people at all times. Drama is usually best saved for
the stage so if I ever leave this list it will be done quietly and without
fanfare used to draw attention to ME because this list is not about me or
any single person, it's about the Haflinger Horse. Cheers, Judy in NE TN
