[haflingerfriends] Wonderful hooves

My farrier was out yesterday for my horses usual trim, what a muddy mess! You haven't lived until you have experienced one of the wettest winters in years when you have clay soil that turns to gumbo. The only up side is the hills are green and growing lots of feed for the farmer's cows, and the lakes and reservoirs are filling up after a number of years of water rationing.

I felt so bad for Greg! I had put the horses in their stalls to have their lower legs and feet somewhat clean, wiped them down with a bath towel, BUT, and this is a big BUT, lol, I failed to shut their paddock gates, how dumb is that? So naturally my farrier showed up early and went to my neighbor's mare first, we get out horses done at the same time. So the very curious horses went out into the arena to see what was happening and walked right through the slop, again..

Oh you just should have seen Greg after he trimmed three muddy horses that are shedding like crazy. His legs were muddy, his apron was muddy, and his shoulders were covered with white and red hair. Poor guy!

While he was doing my appaloosa mare, I was standing there actually plucking huge chunks of hair from her chest, good grief..I gathered it up and filled a feed bucket, I want to try spinning it. Yaks! in the yard!! And this mare gets brushed often!

While Greg was trimming Guthrie, he started talking about horse feet, and he commented that he wished all the horses he worked on had feet like 'this little guy'. He said he had mustang feet, naturally well shaped and tough! So here is yet another reason to love our golden ponies, great feet!

Right now my dogs ate stinking up the room chewing on the trimmings, oh yum, LOL.
