I, too, had no experience with foaling and was very nervous, but luckily, my rescue haflinger mare (from an aspiring breeder that failed!) foaled with no help, I was there for the whole thing and the only thing I did was clear the sac away from Guinness's nose when he was part way out, thankfully mothernature took care of everything. It happens fairly fast and I did tie up the placenta afterward, but it came out quickly. I had prepared a deep straw bed for her and she decided she liked the end of the paddock that was damp and dark instead! I was lucky that it was a hot July night and not this time of the year. You'll do fine, follow your instincts and enjoy, it's quite an experience to watch new life.

Hoping everything goes ok and if not, hoping the Vet can get here quick. I sure wish I had anyone of you here with me tonight, all the experience, many with foaling. I have zero experience with foaling, I have read and reread many of the posts here and many web sites in the hope of educating myself well enough to be of some help to the "girls". I am thinking Missy will be tonight or tomorrow night. She still hasn't made a big bag, but she is swollen, longer and well I would say she looks loose?. She also has that look: get this out of me. I stroke her neck and tell her I know just how she feels and have been there too. I know she doesn't understand the words but I like to think she understands the tone of my voice to mean it will be ok, hang in there. Anyway here's to hoping.
