Re: [haflingerfriends] Re: Question on spotted haffie to the Barbara

I couldn't finish your post without telling you what a chuckle you gave me. "I will either have a good trail horse or she will kill me LOL." That was great! :)

Barbara
You know this guy was like i said very beautiful,he also came w/ a half brother that looked real simular in markings. But the other guys attitude was so much better.Cherokee was the one who lived up the road(just remembered his name),i believe the story that came w/ him was he was a spoiled show horse. But like i said other than what we were told on him we had no idea.I have a pic of him and you can see haffie influience's ,if i had more horse experience i would have liked to have him too.But not wanting to have to horses that needed training and ground work.I left well enough alone.I am not willing to take time away from what Legend needs.Like i also told my friend"i will either have a good trail horse or she will kill me LOL" She agreed and said she said the same w/ her horse who is a good trail horse now,so she knew where i was comming from.
I also went to look at a free horse who was advertised as a haflinger.Well i looked and scoured the web and found what i thought was the same horse.Well when i got to see her she was in fact NOT a haffie and a very short stocky belgiun!Granted she looked like a BIG haffie, but when i got to her feet i knew she was in fact NOT a haffie. As my husband said"those aren't sandwich plates for feet, those are dinner plates!"(He refers to the feet as dinner wear most of the time.)But she did look like a haffie to some degree. But i told them that she didn't look like the haffie i had at home, the girls father agreed and asked her to change the ad for the horse..But the people knew nothing of her history, other than she was 20+ yrs old and was neglected before.
I just couldn't get over how most people can confuse the haffie w/ a belgiun horse. But i guess it could happen,i think Legend is the only haffie around my area for miles.I know people will drive by and go real slow just to look at her.The amish even come by and drive real slow, then of course Legend will kick up her heals for another horse LOL.
Now that would be kinda of different to see a fjord and haffie cross,i have to ask did they have the mohawk?
I know another draft that does not get alot of press is the brabrant(sp) but i thought they were around the same size as a haffie.Boy was i wrong! But very interesting to see for sure.

Also, any Haflinger with regular Haflinger Registration papers is not a "Spotted Haflinger". The Spotted Haffies are cross bred between Haflingers and Paint and pinto horses or ponies, so they're not full blooded.

Interestingly, I met a driving pair of Fjord/Haflinger cross geldings at a Chuckwagon event here in Arkansas (full brothers). They were kind of neat looking, though why someone would cross the two breeds is beyond me, lol. Many of the breeding practices in rural Arkansas are "interesting" to say the least... ;-)
