Re: [haflingerfriends] Re: Into the fold ....breeding out the Drafty

I like some from each of the lists and not all from either list. I think I like a more "middle" type - a little leggier than some from the draft type list, a little more depth in body than some from the "modern" type list.

I measured "bone" on two of my horses today - one haffie and one QH/WB cross. My haffie is around 14 hands and maybe 1050 pounds by weight tape (I'd like to see her a little slimmer, but probably not going to happen until she starts her "real" training this spring at age 4). My crossbred is 15 hands and about 950-1000 pounds. They both measured just under 8 inches of bone (admittedly the tape I used could be lacking a bit of accuracy). I think the main height difference is in the length of leg. I think they'd both take a size 1 shoe if they weren't barefoot.

Here is what I believe to be 'modern' vs 'classic'

From the AHR stallion list that I feel are more drafty and 'classic':

Now for some of the more 'modern' skinny tall leggier type haflinger stallions standing, the ones I personally do not care for their looks

ps: yes some of the 'modern' haffy's I listed have great conformation, I used to be on the horse judging team in FFA...but it is just not what the 'draft pony' haflinger is. IMO
