Your question has to do with the stallion lines. There are 7 Haflinger stallion lines; A, B, M, N, S, ST, and W. All registered male Haflingers take the first initial of their sire. All female registered Haflingers take the first initial of thier dam. My mare is Nightingale (I got to name her myself, that was a huge honor) her dam's name is Noblesse.
I believe that all letters of the alphabet are represented in mare lines, but only 7 letters are in the stallion lines. It really has nothing to do with quality of the horse. Some stallion lines will carry certain traits, but that is all depending upon who you talk to... LOL. Everyone has their own opinions on why they like different stallion lines and why. I personally feel the mare line has as much to do with it all as the stallion line, but then I am a female and I choose to believe that females are important to. ;^) (Before anyone takes that wrong and takes offense, that specific last sentence was said totally tongue in cheek)
