[haflingerfriends] Re: You can lead a horse to water...

Hi Marilyn,

I have found that soaking beet pulp and their low starch concentrate as well as their vitamin mineral supplement helps to keep them better hydrated. I sometimes will add GRATED carrot to it to make it even tastier. (I will never again feed whole carrots to horses, and I won't enve go into that sad tale right now. Believe me when I say - DO NOT feed whole carrots)
Adding electrolytes to one of their buckets of water helps too. Just make sure they have one bucket of plain water as well. If the water is too cool, sometimes they will not drink. My older horse will not touch water that has a skim of ice on it. I use heated water buckets when the temps get to freezing.
