[haflingerfriends] Re: spotted Haflingers, NOT!

Exaxtly Emily! I will not join the AQHA, APHA, or ApHC (appies) because of their lack of interest in horse welfare, in breeding and in showing. I even own two ApHC horses and refuse to join the organization or show at their shows. I paid for their registration papers to be transfered when I bought them, which was hard enough for me to justify, lol.

The Haflinger registry needs to keep these strict breeding and registration rules in place if they want to keep the integrity of the breed intact. I'd rather belong to a "small" breed organization than a large one with no scruples...

It was not good for these poor young horses to be bred so young. Rewarding that behavior by allowing the offspring to be fully registerable will only encourage careless breeding.

They should offer a hardship application, perhaps costing a LITTLE more to allow an obviously purebred animal to be registered. There are a lot of unregistered purebreds because of parents being too young or not licensed. Is the AHR hurting itself and these unregistered horses by not allowing the foals to be registered? I think so, it definitely hurts the foals involved and the future owners have no control over what happened during the breeding process. I'm not advocating allowing horses to be bred at an earlier age, just that it's a shame the resulting foals are not allowed to be registered, especially when it's an accident which can easily happen with a young stallion!!! Isn't it a bit like cutting off the nose to spite the face?
