Denny, Looking back, I think it was in Feb of 1992 that I quit smoking and began thinking about exercise to prevent weight gain. However, it was not until July 1999 that I actually bought a Haflinger and began exercising in earnest.
Your pictures with snow remind me of the twelve years we lived in Canada (10 in Ontario, 2 in Quebec). I recall temps hovering around 0 and when we warmed to 30 it felt like a heat wave! Actually we are expecting snow flurries here today with a high of 30 which will seem very cold--it's a matter of acclimation.
We have four distinct seasons here, just a shorter, less-cold winter and a longer, warmer summer than much of Canada. My two Haflingers are currently way too muddy to groom for a ride so I just give them a few scratches under their mane when feeding. I'd love to be wintering in Ocala, Florida about now...
Looking forward... Having reached my senior years I'm much less fond of cold weather than I once was so I'm looking forward to warm spring breezes and continuing to ride both Bob and Marcy as I continue to improve my own riding skills. Hopefully we won't have as much rain in '10 as we had in '09 so I'll get more ride time. And with those tempting Christmas desserts now gone, I'll reduce my sugar intake!
