[haflingerfriends] Re: Looking for a trainer/ How much to feed?

Mine gets free choice mixed grass hay (Bermuda with local grasses) and is only a little too fat with a 3-day a week work schedule.  The only "grain"  he gets is 1.5 lbs of alfalfa pellets, 1/2 cup of flax meal, and a vit/min supplement that is high in magnesium (thought to be good for "easy keeper" to help keep weight down).  That's it, just once a day.  I use some water or apple cider vinegar to mix it all together.

Some members have  had really good luck feeding their Haflingers using a small mesh hay bag to slow them down.
