[haflingerfriends] Re: Gaining Respect

Hi Susanna,

if you are following Clinton Anderson's method you are on your way to a great relationship with your horse.

One thing he stresses is never allow two feet but two eyes all the time. Yeilding the hindquarters is part of the groundwork. If she gives you two hind feet or her butt...then you make her yeild her hindquarters. His video 'Gaining respect and control on the ground' goes over this. You will continue to do this to where when you act like your going to tap her on the hindquarters with the handy stick she'll move her butt away from you before you even 'ask' her too. Its' all in the body language. Good luck!!

We practiced backing up on command, walking together with a safe distance between us,turning away from me, a "whoa" and "stand and I'd drop the lead to the ground.
